Friday nights are made for concerts, but not just any concert, Rock the Schools 2011 Benefit Concert, at the notorious Gramercy Theatre in New York City. A few of us fab Lifestyle + Charity editors were ready to roll with Rock the Schools. The concert ‘ headlining singer / song writer and huge supporter of the arts, Dion Roy. Dion grew up singing in choir and playing in band in High School and was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel and perform, which ultimately lead to his passion of music. Most of Dion’s song writing inspiration comes from love and trials in life. His latest single, “Hey My Love” has just been released on iTunes.

We also chatted with host, Intern Queen, Lauren Berger, who was privileged to participate in the benefit concert to help motivate students and put the art programs back in school. Her new book, “All Work, No Pay” hits stores January 2012. One Tree Hill star, Tyler Hilton, also expressed his support saying, “Sometimes to make it in this industry is a one and a million opportunity, so I will do anything to try and help those express themselves through music and art.” Other artists that performed included, Ryan Cabrera, How to Make it in America star, Bryan Greenberg, and special guest (triple threat) actor / singer / songwriter Val Emmich. Funds raised from the event will support music programs in NY State public schools, many of which have been faced with major budget cuts, and at risk of having their music departments cut all together.
